To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Allison Jensen; I am 27 years old. I have an MA in English Literary Studies, specializing in Contemporary Literature, from Lancaster University in the UK where I graduated with Merit. I also have a BA in English Honours from the University of Calgary. I wanted to submit an application for any potential openings you had with your organization. I feel I am the best candidate for employment because of my job history, my education, and my personality.

I have a wide range of job experience, including everything from physical labour to child care to office managing and much in between. Though my range of jobs may seem irrelevant at first, it is precisely this wide cross section of experience that proves my adaptability and my ability to learn new skills and apply them to various situations. I am flexible and easy to work with which makes it easy for me to acclimatize in a wide variety of professional environments. One thing I do not lack is enthusiasm; I never shy away from difficult tasks and I use my creative problem-solving skills to accomplish whatever is required of me. I started working regularly at age 14 and held part-time jobs all throughout high school.

In university, as an undergrad, I served on the Undergraduate Programs Committee for the English Department as the Undergraduate Representative. I attended meetings and gave input for the direction of the undergraduate program at the University of Calgary. I also helped organize and participated in the Undergraduate Honours Symposium where I delivered a talk about my undergraduate research. As a graduate student, I served on the committee in charge of organizing the annual English MA Conference; in addition to general collaborative organizational efforts, I was specifically in charge of organizing and chairing a round table discussion with four professors about the current and future state of English as an academic discipline.

As a graduate student, I learned how to produce high-quality work under pressure while meeting strict deadlines. I was required to structure, prioritize, and execute my own independent projects. My level of education has allowed me to cultivate many transferable and employable skills. My critical thinking skills allow me to accurately interpret information and integrate it into creative productions. I am familiar and competent with research processes, am able to synthesize information, and can produce results. I am computer literate and proficient with both Windows and Mac operating systems; I am able to learn new programs fairly easily.

I am a bright, competent, and well-rounded individual. I have an intermediate knowledge of French. I am ambitious and driven which means my work ethic is excellent and the quality of my work is consistently above average. I am personable, amiable, and can get along with people from a wide range of backgrounds. My international experience proves I am adaptable and able to succeed in unfamiliar situations with a diverse range of people. I work well in a team as well as independently, needing little supervision. I have a strong work ethic and a desire to succeed which means I will perform every task to the best of my ability.

My job history, my education, and my personality prove that I am a strong candidate for employment. If you are interested in seeing a copy of my CV, please do let me know. My phone number is 613-889-2846 and my email address is allisondjensen@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Allison Jensen
